CTC Program

Perez Career and Transition Center (CTC) is designed to provide students with the opportunity to participate in a structured program that focuses on preparatory experiences, work-based experiences, the development of leadership skills, and social skills for successful employment (soft skills). Preparatory experiences at Perez CTC include career assessment, opportunity awareness, and work readiness skills. Work-based experiences at Perez (CTC) include a range of activities that ultimately build up to on-the-job experiences. At Perez (CTC), there is a job developer who assists students with job placement, job coaching, and connecting with outside agencies. Development of leadership skills is an important component at Perez CTC. Leadership skills help students become self-sufficient and productive members of society. These components are intact to support the students in the development of independent decision-making skills, self-determination skills, and self-advocacy skills. At Perez students receive positive behavior support that includes social skills instruction, coping strategies, and strategies to overcome stress and frustration.

All students enrolled in Perez Career and Transition Center receive multiple forms of career assessments. All students at Perez CTC have the opportunity to participate one semester in Practical Assessment Exploration System (P.A.E.S. lab). The P.A.E.S. lab is aligned to give students an experience to explore a wide range of “hands-on” skills which they may encounter in the work place. Some of the activities performed in the P.A.E.S. lab are in Business/Marketing, Home Consumer Science, Industrial Technology, Manipulative Processing and Production, and Independent Living Skills. P.A.E.S. lab activities enable students to explore their individual interests and abilities in order to begin the decision making process toward a career goal.

Students enrolled at Perez participate in running a School Based Enterprise (SBE) within their strands. Students develop the skills necessary to run and operate a business by actively participating in the strands SBE. Perez now has two vans to use in the Career and Transition strands. The vans are used to transport students to on site work experiences as well as to promote their school based enterprise businesses within the community and LAUSD district offices.
